Cost Savings

Although there are numerous benefits to SIP, one of the primary drivers for most businesses is the cost savings that can be achieved. As SIP trunks are “virtual” phone lines, there are numerous ways to package SIP trunks to end users.

Typically, SIP trunks will carry a very low line rental and calls will then be charged on top or you will be offered a slightly higher (but still cheaper than legacy analogue and ISDN) line rental which includes the vast majority of your calls. Either way, the savings to be gained are generally very impressive. Savings are proportionate to the number of lines you have and the volume of calls you make.

As calls over SIP is simply the movement of data packets, any calls that are chargeable (depending on your package) tend to be a lot cheaper than calls over legacy networks.

The example below shows the cost savings that can be made:

A health centre had 18 x ISDN30 channels, 80 x ddi numbers and made a lot of calls to mobiles. Their average bill was in excess of £800 plus VAT per month. Their recent move to SIP has reduced their average monthly bill to £320 plus VAT
